post Chocolate wrapper that helps manage weight gain

April 29th, 2008

I have two problems with chocolate bars:

  • They are irresistible and I end up eating lots of them, which makes me gain extra weight.
  • Despite all the efforts of manufacturers, the packaging has never been user friendly enough for me: I have no control over unwrapping process and often the bar just falls out of it before I start eating.

I think that solving the second problem could also help solve both of them!

Here is the idea. What if the packaging had horizontal strips helping open it by just pulling the strip to the side. But that’s not all.

There could be several strips located at 1/3 of the bar from the top:

in the middle of the bar:

and 1/3 away from the end of the bar:

What difference would this make?

It is well known that the key to weight management is the ability to control the amount of food you eat. Tearing strips located at certain positions on the bar would help you do exactly that:

  • if you just want something to nibble, pull the top strip, have 1/3 of the bar and save the rest for later
  • if you’ve been good and avoided chocolate for three days, let yourself go and use the bottom strip to have the whole bar at once!

And not to mention, that would make the unwrapping process much easier.
