Restoring harmony in digital clock
May 28th, 2008
I’ve had this digital alarm clock for some time and I’ve always felt that there is something wrong with it. Couldn’t figure out what exactly until it struck me.
It’s showing time in 24 hour-format. Three digits from 0:00 till 9:59 and four digits for the rest of the day. The latter are displayed symmetrically but three digits don’t, and this breaks the harmony.
Easy to fix!
You are probably thinking: make four digits out of three by adding a zero in front! Possibly, but doesn’t look as good as the following solution.

From 0:00 till 9:59 the clock could automatically move displayed digits so that they are in the middle!

And for the rest of the day display time as usual.
By restoring the symmetry of the displayed digits clock would bring back a piece of harmony into my hectic mornings.
