post Car cameras for safer driving and security

Two problems with cars to solve in this post with one simple solution.

First: the blind spot. No comments.

Second: when the car is stolen, it’s hard to identify the thief (unless you have friends in NCIS).

How to solve both?

The answer is dirty cheap and simple: install a camera above the side mirror (or two above each side mirror):

What’s the point?

Projecting live image from this camera onto a small display inside the car or the windscreen would eliminate the blind spot. The driver would be able to see all around the car at all times.

More to that, when the car is parked, it could store motion-triggered video of what is happening around:

Why? First of all, if the car is found after the theft, the footage could help identify the person who did it, where the car was taken, and possibly thief’s accomplices.

Also, if cars with such video system installed are parked on the same street or a car park, they are ‘protecting’ each other. Video footage from cars around the stolen car could help identify the exact time, method and people involved in the theft even if the car was never found after.

Would make street parking even safer!
